Dawn conducted the inaugural survey in conjunction
with Donut Day June 1. "Our company began in 1920
with the basics: two bakers and a recipe for delicious
donuts and now, almost 100 years later, if you've ever
had a donut in this country, you've likely tasted our
ingredients," says Angie Goldberg, chief marketing
officer for Dawn. "As the popularity of this sweet treat
grows, our team will continue to deliver the ingredients, inspiration and innovation needed to help our
customers satisfy this demand."
Availability,
affordability driving
organic growth
Increased availability, more affordable options and
a larger number of health-minded consumers are
driving growth in the organic foods sector, according
to a new study.
The percentage of eating occasions where foods
with organic labels were consumed increased from
7.5 percent to 9.7 percent in the past three years,
according to Chicago research firm The NPD Group.
Over a seven-day period, about 10 percent of the
population consume all organic foods, 19 percent
consume all-natural and organic foods and 20 percent
all-natural only foods, according to NPD. About 51
percent of the population are non-users of organic
and all-natural foods.
FMI launches
program to grow
emerging brands
The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) is launching FMI
Emerge, a subscription-based online community for
emerging food and beverage brands that offers education, mentoring and access to capital sources.
The program's key objective
is to help emerging brands
grow sustainably through
expanded distribution
and enhanced operations,
financing and sales.
"FMI Emerge convenes everyone in one place - the
industry's leading experts, regional and nationwide
retailers, emerging brands boasting a wide range of
products, and investors looking for new opportunities," an FMI release says.
FMI Emerge seeks to cultivate trading partner relationships with food-producing companies that have
products with limited grocery distribution, or companies that seek more sales velocity, FMI says.

Bacon-infused
Eighty-two percent of those 18 to 34 are interested in
trying "unique and adventurous donut flavors" like
pickle-flavored, sriracha and s'mores, according to a
survey by Jackson, Michigan-based bakery ingredients giant Dawn Food Products Inc.
