Pizza remained a popular option in supermarket delis and prepared foods departments
over the last year, with average weekly sales per
store across the U.S. increasing by 8 percent.
While the East region was once again the
biggest purchaser of supermarket pizza -
$1,087 of weekly sales per store, a 5 percent
jump - the biggest increase in sales came
from the South region, a 10 percent raise to
$801. The Central region increased sales by 9
percent while the West saw an 8 percent jump.

also saw increases across the board, including
a jump to 3 percent from 2.8 percent in total
Pizza sales were even throughout the year,
save for a significant dip in July and increases
around New Year's Day and Valentine's Day.

Whole pizzas made up 63 percent of pizza
dollar share by sub-category, while single slice
sales accounted for 10.8 percent. Calzones and
Stromboli made up 4.5 percent.
