Deli soup sales, buoyed by strong action in
the Central region, were up 6 percent across
national sales over the last 52 weeks.

The Central region saw a 20 percent increase
in average weekly soup sales per store,
jumping from $358 per week to $428. Other
regions saw moderate increases - 8 percent
for the South and 6 percent for the East -
while the West saw a 1 percent decrease.
Despite the West's slight dip in weekly sales
per store, it was once again the biggest soup
seller, averaging $630 of weekly sales per
store. Southern stores, meanwhile, sold just
$217 of soup per week.
Average soup contribution to deli department
sales did not change much from the previous
52 weeks, hovering around 1.5 percent across
the U.S. and in the Central and East regions,
with the West dropping slightly.
Vegetable broth soups were the biggest
contributors to soup sales. The sub-category
accounted for 39.3 percent of sales while the
non-specific soups sub-category contributed
25.9 percent.

warmer summer months before rebounding in
early fall and spiking in December and January.
